Cliffside Malibu Treatment Center Establishes Family Program To Speed Recovery From Addiction

LOS ANGELESOct. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Sufferers of alcohol or drug addiction are often beset by loneliness and despair, and their addictions frequently have devastated their families. In many cases family members may even be a factor in the root cause of the addiction. Yet, despite the central role played by families in addiction and its treatment, with most rehab clinics families are at best an after-thought and rarely integrated into the treatment process.

Cliffside Malibu, a member of Discovery Behavioral Health, and the preeminent, evidence-based alcohol and drug treatment center in Malibu, CA, announced today the establishment of its Family Program, a holistic approach to healing not just addicts, but their families as well. The center fully integrates those closest to the client into the entire recovery process. The Family Program is based on a simple premise: Because addiction is a disease that affects the whole family, the whole family should be included in treatment. In fact, research has shown that involving families in the addiction treatment process can speed the recovery process.

"We've made the family an essential part of our program. The key word here is healing. The physical, psychological, and emotional damage caused by an addiction cannot be fully healed without those closest to the client being fully engaged throughout the healing process," says Kelly StephensonCliffside Malibu's Chief Executive Officer.

The Family Program begins with an initial, all-day orientation session that not only strives to inform but even entertain. "We're not afraid of using the 'F' word here – fun! Yes, there's a lot of in-depth and serious information presented during the orientation day, but we also make time for a multifamily barbecue, prepared by our expert culinary staff, and located on the beautiful grounds of our facility overlooking the Pacific Ocean," says Stephenson.

"It's a time for clients and their families to support one another and compare notes in a relaxed setting. The underlying message is that as a person with an addiction problem, or someone who is close to that person, you're not alone," she says.

The barbecue is book-ended by information sessions on a wide variety of topics related to the recovery process and presented by board-certified MDs, psychologists, licensed clinicians, and certified addiction counselors – all experts in the field of addiction.

"The purpose of the Cliffside Malibu Family Program is to prepare and educate families and loved ones with information about substance abuse and the underlying issues that fuel the behavior, and ultimately lead to a disruption in normal life," says John Peloquin, CEO of Discovery Behavioral Health. "With the nation in the grips of an unprecedented addiction epidemic, it's time for all of us in the recovery field to rethink standard operating procedures and make room for innovations about how to solve this crisis."

Discovery Austin offers partial hospitalization or day treatment and intensive outpatient programming for adolescents and adults, and males and females, local to the Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, San Marcos, Georgetown, and other neighboring communities.

The demand for eating disorder treatment services in the area has grown as there are challenges accessing care in the Austin area. Thus, Discovery's decision to bring eating disorder outpatient treatment services to this location was a response to requests from professionals in the community seeking a local option for their clients and patients who require a level of care higher than traditional outpatient or who are stepping down from residential treatment or inpatient hospitalization.

"We are excited to bring our world-class eating disorder treatment program to the Austin community," said Dawn Delgado, LMFT and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor. Bringing specialized eating disorder services to local communities allows for regular involvement for families or the client's primary support system."

While at least 30 million people of all ages and genders suffer from an eating disorder in the United States alone, only 10 percent of people will receive the treatment they need. "The gap between those that need treatment and those that receive it is largely an issue of access and Center For Discovery is committed to delivering quality treatment throughout the country while observing the highest standards of care in the industry"-CEO John Peloquin, PhD, MBA.  Eating disorders still have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness and every 62 minutes at least one person dies as a direct result from an eating disorder. Cliffside Malibu's Sherman Oaks Facility Now In Network With Anthem Blue Cross

MALIBU, Calif.April 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Cliffside Malibu, a nationally recognized leader in evidence-based addiction treatment, announced today that its new outpatient facility in the Sherman Oaks community of Los Angeles is now in network with Anthem Blue Cross, one of the two largest health providers in California serving nearly 2.4 million residents.

Cliffside Malibu Outpatient Services – Sherman Oaks is an innovative outpatient center designed to help those in the early stages of substance abuse or drug dependence.

"With today's announcement of our Sherman Oaks facility now being in network with Anthem Blue Cross, we have the ability to provide the best treatment services available to the greatest number of people," said Cliffside Malibu CEO John Peloquin, PhD.

The Cliffside Malibu Outpatient Services - Sherman Oaks facility was opened earlier this year to serve the growing need for evidence-based treatment of substance abuse, notably alcohol and drugs.  The facility offers outpatient detox services as an alternative to residential detox. Clients can continue their treatment in the outpatient center, attending individual and group therapy.

Overdoses from opioid drugs have soared in the U.S. over the past five years to become the leading cause of death for adults under 50 (surpassing deaths by car accidents and gun violence), according to the Centers for Disease Control. While every 15 minutes an American dies from an opioid drug overdose, the vast majority of those who need treatment never receive it, mainly because of either a lack of qualified facilities or an inability to pay for it.

"There's a tremendous need for affordable and accessible outpatient addiction treatment services in greater Los Angelesin the wake of the opioid epidemic. This new center is committed to providing the highest standard of evidence-based addiction treatment that over the years has defined the Cliffside Malibu brand," said Laura Beck, Cliffside Malibu Director of Outpatient Services.

The new center's detox services are headed by medical director Craig V. Smith, MD, who is board-certified in addiction medicine. Outpatient detox is suitable for patients battling opioid, benzodiazepine, or alcohol dependence, he said.

Cliffside Malibu Outpatient Services – Sherman Oaks is located at 15250 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, near the intersection of the 405 and 101 freeways in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.

Cliffside Malibu has earned a world-class reputation for its evidence-based addiction treatment centers.  Its residential facility in Malibu is known for its treatment of Hollywood celebrities and other luminaries from the worlds of business, sports and politics. The expansion of its operations to the San Fernando Valley allows its acclaimed clinical program to become available to a far broader population.  The new facility is in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and accepts most health insurance plans.

Founded by Richard Taite in 2005, Cliffside Malibu treatment center has grown in size and stature in the ensuing years, today offering the highest standard of clinical care in its residential, intensive-outpatient, and sober living facilities.

Cliffside Malibu Adds Outpatient Addiction Treatment Facility in Sherman Oaks, CA

MALIBU, Calif.Jan. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Cliffside Malibu, a nationally recognized leader in evidence-based addiction treatment, has expanded to Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley with a new 2,000 square-foot outpatient facility. Cliffside Malibu – Sherman Oaks is located at 15250 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, near the intersection of the 405 and 101 freeways.

Cliffside Malibu's innovative new outpatient center has been designed to help those in the early stages of substance abuse or drug dependence.

"Tragically, a medical procedure or chronic pain condition is treated with a prescription painkiller, which too often turns into a drug dependence," said Cliffside CEO John Peloquin, PhD. "With the addition of this new facility we can provide a full spectrum of treatment programs to meet the needs of all individuals experiencing a substance misuse problem."

Overdoses from opioid drugs have soared in the U.S. over the past five years to become the leading cause of death for adults under 50 (surpassing deaths by car accidents and gun violence), according to the Centers for Disease Control. While every 15 minutes an American dies from an opioid drug overdose, the vast majority of those who need treatment never receive it, mainly because of a lack of qualified facilities.

"There's a tremendous need for outpatient addiction treatment services in greater Los Angeles in the wake of the opioid epidemic. This new center is committed to providing the highest standard of evidence-based addiction treatment that over the years has defined the Cliffside Malibu brand," says Shannon Caldwell, clinical manager. A licensed MFT, she previously worked at Tarzana Treatment Center, San Fernando Valley Counseling Center and Santa Barbara Inpatient Psychiatric Health Facility.

The new center's detox services are headed by medical director Craig V. Smith, MD, who is board-certified in addiction medicine. Outpatient detox is suitable for patients battling opioid, benzodiazepine, or alcohol dependence, he explains.

"What level of care provided to each individual is determined by six dimensions of addiction, factors that include the patient's history of treatment and whether an intolerance to drugs or alcohol has developed. Ultimately, we look at whether withdrawal poses any severe health danger," says Smith.

Cliffside Malibu has earned a world-class reputation for its evidence-based addiction treatment centers.  It's residential facility in Malibu is known for its treatment of Hollywood celebrities and other luminaries from the worlds of business, sports and politics.
