Everyone deserves to live happy, rewarding lives.

June 2, 2020

We founded Discovery Behavioral Health with the belief that everyone deserves to live happy, rewarding lives. Over the past week, we collectively processed many emotions as racism and violence tore at our nation and our hearts. We have had many internal and external discussions and have challenged ourselves on how we can better provide equity and equality for our employees, our patients, and our communities. While we have always been progressive in providing access and inclusivity for all, there is always room for growth.

We are committed to moving more vigorously to recruit employees who represent the diverse communities where we work in and the patients we serve. We will create spaces where our staff feel safe to work – and safe to speak out when they do not. Our substance use, eating and mental health disorder treatment will provide safe, therapeutic environments where people of color or minority are never marginalized, but nurtured, supported, accepted, respected and heard while they engage in the heroic work of recovery. We will work with both internal and third-party partners to help us assess areas for continuous improvement. And because behavioral health treatment is a right, not a privilege, we will accelerate our advocacy for access to care for all, regardless of economic status or insurance coverage.

There’s been a lot of talk at Discovery; however, make no mistake we are an organization of action. So what does this mean? It means we will be making changes and improvements. We don’t have all the answers yet, but rest assured change is afoot. We will hold ourselves publicly accountable by providing transparency and regular communication about what we are doing to break the cycle of complacency.

We will be better by doing better.

More to come in the days and weeks ahead…
