  • John Rodney, MDMedical Director, New Hope Ranch Treatment Center

    Dr. Rodney is the current medical director of New Hope Ranch in Manor, Texas. He earned his medical degree at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City and completed a family medicine residency and obstetrics fellowship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He is board certified in both family and addiction medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties. The author of numerous papers and chapters, he has been practicing family and addiction medicine for more than 10 years. Of note, he honorably served in the United States Navy Reserve for 9 years and attained the rank of lieutenant commander. Finally, he currently serves as an associate professor of family and addiction medicine at Meharry Medical College.

  • Alyson Albano, M.S., LMFT, PMH-CVP, Clinical Performance and Process Optimization

    Serving more than 15 years in behavioral healthcare, Alyson has experience in a wide range of levels of care, serving populations including, substance use disorders, eating disorders, gambling disorder, complex trauma, mental health disorders, and perinatal mood, and anxiety disorders. Alyson is a certified perinatal counselor and is certified in complex trauma and telemental health. Currently, Alyson’s professional focus includes implementation of systems to ensure the highest standard of clinical documentation is maintained, standardization to achieve value-based care and improve patient outcomes, evaluation of patient care data, identification of performance metrics to review program effectiveness, participation in the Learning Health System with internal and external partners focused on predictive data trials. In late 2020, Alyson initiated a clinical philosophy, and corresponding manual, The Clinician’s Desk Reference, and a supervision framework for Discovery Behavioral Health. This was a collaborative effort and developed with input from expert clinicians from all service lines within the organization. Simultaneously, and as a key dimension to what is now referred to as the DBH Clinical Model, Alyson developed a DBH Therapeutic Alliance Tool, which is available in the Eating Disorder, Mental Health, and Substance Use Disorder divisions.

  • Jen Henretty, PhD, CEDSExecutive Director of Clinical Outcomes, Discovery Behavioral Health

    Dr. Henretty is a clinical psychologist, researcher, and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) with almost 20 years of experience treating adolescents and adults with eating disorders. She has been with Center For Discovery/Discovery Behavioral Health for more than twelve years, operating in roles including therapist, Program Director, and Director of Research. She currently serves the organization as the Executive Director of Clinical Outcomes, assisting with research and program development, supervising therapists-in-training, and working to make treatment more inclusive. Dr. Henretty is passionate about social justice, Health At Every Size®, and the interplay of treatment and technology. She has served as Vice President of the international board of the Association for Size Diversity And Health (ASDAH) and as President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp). She co-created an eating disorder recovery app; has spoken at national and international conferences; and has functioned as a subject matter expert for CBS radio, the Dr. Phil television show, the LA Times newspaper, and Psychology Today. Her research includes more than a dozen articles published in peer-reviewed academic journals such as the International Journal of Eating Disorders, and she is an active member of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED). Dr. Henretty holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Master of Science in General Psychology from the University of Memphis, where she was awarded the S. Howard Bartley Scholar Award.

  • Shelbi Cox, MABusiness Analytics & Insights Specialist

    Shelbi manages patient outcome data across all Discovery service lines.  This includes measuring performance metrics, identifying solutions, and improving system functionality. Her work plays a crucial role in improving the treatment experience for patients, optimizing business solutions for staff, strengthening security measures, and enhancing operational efficiency within the organization. Leveraging data, she generates valuable business analytics in various areas such as clinical treatment, utilization review, marketing, and operations, thereby driving effective decision-making and optimizing performance throughout Discovery.

    With more than a decade at Discovery, Shelbi’s work began in patient care, igniting her passion for transforming lives.  Her skills as a research assistant became increasingly vital as the company grew and she advanced to become a research and outcome specialist where she automated data collection processes, established databases for patient analysis, and managed medical records and electronic medical record administration. As Supervisor of Research and Data, she had oversight of the team that implemented the company’s first quality management software and enhancing compliance reporting across all Discovery lines of service. She played a pivotal role in analyzing patient outcome data, has co-authored academic publications and presented her work at conferences nationwide.

  • Brett Talbot, Ph.D.CCO, Co-Founder

    Dr. Brett Talbot, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and CCO/Co-founder at Videra Health, a digital healthcare technology company. Previously, Dr. Talbot was a Chief Clinical Officer, Chief Quality Officer, Executive Clinical Director, and Executive Director at behavioral healthcare organizations. He has worked clinically in several hospitals and residential care settings. Brett’s private practice has focused on behavioral health services, healthcare technology consultation, and he currently sits on several healthcare-related advisory boards. 

    Dr. Talbot received his doctorate degree in psychology from the University of Houston, specializing in health service psychology. Brett is certified in both Lean Six Sigma Healthcare Management and Healthcare Project Management. Administratively, he has specialized in program development, performance and process improvement, quality assurance, and risk management. Clinically, he has focused on working with healthcare providers to develop systems and interventions for patients requiring specialized services. 

    Brett’s research has focused on program design and effectiveness studies for behavioral healthcare, emphasizing the integration of specific interventions, progress monitoring, and long-term outcomes. Dr. Talbot has published various articles, been a guest editor for a scientific journal, has done editorial reviews for children’s healthcare books, and speaks nationally and internationally on many topics surrounding behavioral healthcare. 

  • Loren LarsenCEO/Cofounder

    Loren Larsen is the CEO and Co-founder of Videra Health, a company focused on helping measure and assess mental health using video and artificial intelligence. Larsen is an award-winning technology veteran with extensive engineering and research experience and over 25 issued US patents. Loren has spent the last two decades building teams of scientists and engineers that have built smart video technology used in the delivery of digital assets across many platform ecosystems, including video relay for the deaf and hard of hearing, internet television, and film. His work has been published in both the popular press and scientific journals.  

    Loren previously worked as the Chief Technology Officer at HireVue, building its industry leading on-demand video job interviewing platform, which has since facilitated over 33 million interviews. There, he and his team also invented several new machine learning techniques for predicting, measuring, mitigating, and monitoring potential algorithmic bias to assess individual job competencies using verbal and non-verbal behavior.  

    Loren is passionate about augmenting healthcare with machine learning to better connect patients to their providers in a scalable way and ensure critical patient data is extracted that would otherwise be missed in a purely human interaction. He is an expert at developing technology that accurately analyzes human language and emotion. Loren is also a co-founder of Nomi Health, a services and technology direct healthcare company. 

    Loren earned his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the University of Utah. He then attended Clemson University, earning a master’s degree in computer science.  

  • Philip Sung-En Wang, Dr. P.H., M.D.Director of the Center for Learning Health Systems, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School

    Philip Wang, M.D., Dr.Ph., directs the new Learning Health Systems Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH); the Center helps systems collect and integrate data on patients’ outcomes to continuously improve access, quality, equity, and outcomes from their care. Phil completed his undergraduate degree in biochemistry, medical school, masters and doctoral degrees in epidemiology, as well as psychiatry residency and chief residency, all at Harvard University. He was a faculty member at HMS and BWH until 2006, when he went to serve as Deputy Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and then Deputy Medical Director and Director of Research for the American Psychiatric Association (APA) where he oversaw the recent text revision of DSM. He returned to HMS in 2019 and served as Chair and Chief of Psychiatry, as well as Chief Science Officer at Cambridge Health Alliance. He is currently Co-PI of an NIMH P50 ALACRITY Center grant, as well as an NIMH T32 Fellowship Training grant through the Harvard-T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He has also been awarded research grants from CMS, NIDA, AHRQ, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He has served on several NIH Study Sections, as well as the FDA Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee, FDA Medical Devices Advisory Committee, and FDA Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee. 

  • Rachel Wood, PhDVP, Learning Health Systems

    Rachel Wood, PhD, Vice President of Learning Health Systems for Discovery Behavioral Health, is a licensed clinical psychologist in the behavioral health field for more than twenty years. During her time at Discovery, she has provided direct service in various levels of care including outpatient and intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, direct clinical care for adults and adolescents in PHP RTC and children in acute inpatient.  In her current position, Rachel’s focus is to leverage technology to gather evidence to improve care, access, outcomes, and long-term recovery.  Rachel implemented an app for alumni to provide ongoing education and support via connection with staff members and community members.  

    Rachel’s programs increase the frequency and intensity of support following discharge affording real-time intervention for at risk alumni.  In March 2020 Dr. Wood launched Discovery’s mobile support apps allowing alumni and families to remain connected to program staff, receive educational content on mental health and offer and receive peer support following discharge.  The app is an extension of the in-person alumni programs offered by Discovery to provide a supportive community that fosters long-term recovery. Rachel received her Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology and Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Francisco.  She completed the 1998 International Scholars Program at Imperial College London, England. Her dissertation was presented at the International Conference for the Psychology of Science & Technology.  

  • John Peloquin, Ph.D., MBAPresident & Chief Executive Officer

    John Peloquin’s vision of measurement-based performance to drive clinical results is evident in his work at Discovery Behavioral Health, where he has served as President and CEO since its inception in 2018.  That vision evolved into a first-of-its-kind tracking and assessment platform to help patients maintain the clinical gains made during treatment called Discovery365™. The platform gives patients a greater opportunity to avoid relapses and achieve lifelong recovery.

    Access and preventative care are recurrent themes in his 20-year career in behavioral healthcare leadership.  During the late 1990s, as Chief Administrative Officer/Director of Operations for Vital Imaging, Mr. Peloquin developed and executed organizational growth initiatives, including strategic partnerships and alliances to expand preventive medical treatment throughout the western United States.

    He then became Division President of CRC Health Group, one of the nation’s largest behavioral healthcare providers. He joined the firm in 2004 and was responsible for multiple service lines integrally involved with the growth of company facilities which included a portfolio of premium and low-cost residential facilities treating substance abuse, mental health, eating disorders, and providing an array of ancillary services. A Bain Capital sponsored company, CRC was sold to Acadia Healthcare in 2015 for $1.3B. At that time, this deal constituted the largest organizational sale in the history of the behavioral healthcare field.

    Mr. Peloquin was named Division President for Acadia Healthcare, heading up Acadia’s national outpatient division, charged with servicing more than 58,000 patients per day across 27 states. In this capacity, he helped the division to nearly double in size through acquisition, de novo, and organic growth methods. As a result, the organization became the national market leader in medication-assisted treatment.

    After great success improving clinical and organizational systems at Acadia Healthcare, Mr. Peloquin became Chief Executive Officer of Cliffside Malibu, a network of evidence-based addiction treatment centers located in Malibu, California. In 2018, he facilitated the merger of Cliffside Malibu with Center of Discovery, resulting in the formation of Discovery Behavioral Health where he currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer.

    Mr. Peloquin is married with three children and lives with his family in San Diego. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in Finance and a Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences.

     

  • Matthew Ruble, MDChief Medical Officer

    Matthew Ruble, MD is the Chief Medical Officer of Discovery Behavioral Health. Dr. Ruble has a deep passion for advancing the behavioral health industry through clinical excellence and safety, publication, innovation, payer relations and collaboration. He has created a research collaboration between DBH and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a health system affiliated with Harvard Medical School.   Prior to his role with DBH, he spent 20 years of his career working with the Cambridge Health Alliance, a health system affiliated with Harvard Medical School.  He was the Associate Training Director for Adult Psychiatry.  He was responsible for integrating Primary Care and Behavioral Health services.  To achieve this, he implemented training of clinicians, residents and medical staff in core evidence-based practices including:

    • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)• Psychiatric curriculum development• Research• Publications• Speaking nationally on evidence-based practices• Integrated behavioral and physical health care delivery

    As Lead Medical Director overseeing Clinical Behavioral Health Strategy, Innovation and Utilization Management for Humana, he was part of the team that reviewed and advised on all behavioral health technology innovations for investment and implementation. His expertise spans consistent delivery of innovative and value-based, industry-leading, and integrated behavioral health programs and services.

    Dr. Ruble earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. From there, he attended the Carver School of Medicine at the University of Iowa, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree. He then attended the Cambridge Health Alliance, an affiliate healthcare system of Harvard Medical School for his Internship, Residency, Chief Residency and Medical Education Fellowship.  Dr. Ruble has academic articles in JAMA,  Academic Psychiatry, Psychiatric Services, Population Health Management, Value in Health, J. of Child Adol. Psychopharm, and BMC Geriatrics.
